Mooroolbark East provides a balanced, comprehensive and inclusive curriculum in each of the the three strands of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards or VELS.
The three strands are:
1. Physical, Personal and Social Learning
2.Discipline Based Learning
3. Interdisciplinary Learning.
Within each of the strands are a number of domains and these are listed below next to each of the strands.
Physical, Personal and Social Learning - Health and Physical Education, Interpersonal Education, Personal Education, Civics and Citizenship
Discipline Based Learning - The Arts, English, Humanities - Geography and History, LOTE - Languages Other Than English ie German, Mathematics, Science.
Interdisciplinary Learning - Communication, Design, Creativity and Technology, Information and Communication Technology, Thinking processes.
To ensure that the curriculum standards are met the school utilises specialist staff in the areas of Physical Education, Art, Music and Library. We also offer a strong program for students with disabilities to enable every child to access a quality education and achieve their maximum potential. Individual learning plans are developed for individual students to maintain focus on key areas. Extra-curricular activities are widely offered to cater for inidvidual strengths and talents. These activities also encourage others to develop new areas of interest.
